What is Debian?

- [Scott] Debian is a popular Linux distribution that's used widely on the desktop and on servers. It's one of the earliest distributions of Linux and it serves as the upstream for many other popular distributions, like Ubuntu and Mint. To get familiar with a Linux distribution, it's good to start with the basics of what makes that distribution unique. So in this course, we'll cover software management with Apt, managing the system and services using SystemD, the nftables firewall, and more. We'll also take a look at the GNOME desktop and see how to switch to other desktop environments as well. Learning how to work with Debian will enhance your system administration skills and these skills will transfer to other downstream distros as well. I'm Scott Simpson and I hope you'll join me for this LinkedIn Learning course about Debian. Let's go.
