Working with USB devices
- [Narrator] Because USB devices are designed to be automatic, there are not a lot of tools to manage them. However, if we can understand the process as well as see our USB devices, it will go a long way to trouble shooting them. There are four different types of USB interfaces. OHCI, or Open Host Controller Interface, UHCI, or Universal Host Controller Interface, EHCI, or Enhanced Host Controller Interface, or lastly, xHI, which is eXtensible Host Controller Interface. I know it's alphabet soup, but let me make it clearer for you. OHCI and UHCI are for USB 1.1 devices. For any USB 2 device, you'll have an EHCI controller, and any modern USB 3 devices, you'll have an xHCI controller. Oddly enough, a USB device can actually be connected remotely to a different machine, and then attached using USB over IP. When we do this, we'll be using VHCI, or Virtual Host Controller Interface.
