- [Instructor] The System Activity Reporter (sar). Sar is a tool with many options, check out the main page. Not only can you get information about CPU utilization, memory and disk and so forth, but we're going to look in this movie at sar to get information about the CPU. Now, you can run sar live, the sar command, and it will gather information while it's running and report what it found or you can run a daemon all the time and then some of the time you can run sar and look at the data that the daemon collected. That can be handy when someone says, "hey, this morning the system was really slow. What's the deal?". You can run sar and see what was going on in the morning. Alright, lets just say sar with no options at all. And, I got a bunch of data there from all day say. And, if we look, sometime this afternoon things started getting busy. Let's try sar looking at just one processor. And we got information from the last few hours just at CPU one and it was idle a lot and then…
