- [Instructor] With FM synthesis, we explored a whole new way to craft sound. In this movie we'll look at yet another completely different way of synthesizing sound called modeling synthesis. Modeling synthesis starts by looking at what makes real life instruments to do the things they do. Usually it's some combination of a string being plucked, a breath on a reed or a mallet hitting some material and then a resonator amplifying that sound. Modeling synthesis reverse engineers all of this using complex mathematical algorithms to model the acoustic phenomena that real life instruments achieve. Lucky for us the maths already been done and an instrument like we have here called Collision in Ableton live. The real magic of modeling synthesis is that by pushing the modeling parameters further you can create the sound of a theoretically impossible to build instrument as we'll see.
