- [Narrator] When it comes to combining square wave style oscillators to make rich tones, there are two techniques I want to explore in this movie, using a synth by Native Instruments called Massive. So here on Massive, I'm on the default setting. I can hear the tone is pretty plain with one oscillator set to a square type wave. (electronic music plays) By the way, Massive is an example of a wave table synth. And I can go in here and see all the different wave tables that are available as oscillator sources. First and foremost, I'll choose a new oscillator source called pulse saw PWM. That stands for pulse width modulation. PWM takes the idea of the standard square wave, where 50% of the wave is positive and 50% of the wave is negative, and starts to mess with that ratio. And that's why when we choose that setting on this oscillator here, we have two controls. One's for position, pulse saw position, and one's for pulse…
