- [Instructor] Now it's time to move on to one of my favorite things in the world: drums. The first drum instrument that we're going to talk about is Drum Kit Designer. I've gone ahead and opened it on up, and I'm going to pull down the SoCal kit. This is one of the default kits, here. This is one of the simpler kits that we have going. And let's just talk about basic navigation, here. So first of all, most drum machines or software drum instruments, at least, start on C one. And this is because it goes back to a general MIDI mapping, before we were using laptops for this stuff, we had to do, make some basic assumptions about how MIDI gear was going to talk to other MIDI gear, and so generally speaking, drum kits would start on C one with a kick drum. And moving on from that, we had other things like, D was generally a snare. The black keys just above that, like a G flat and A flat, would generally be different types of high hats, et cetera.
