- [Instructor] In order to create the character of your sound, it's a balancing act between the amount of FM, the harmonic that you're on, and the wave of the modulator. There's one other thing that we have here and that's the modulation envelope. We have the ability to use this envelope to move this amount over time. I'm going to turn this down. (modulator beeps) Let's turn this knob up, and what that's going to do is give the modulation envelope pull on the amount of FM. (modulator plays notes) How about some attack time there. (modulator plays notes) Perhaps that's a little much. The other thing we can do with the modulation envelope is, we can actually change the modulator pitch, which is handy for a lot of things. (modulator plays notes) We can make some really interesting sounds there. If we want, we can mess with the ratio or the harmonic of the carrier.
