- [Narrator] And here's the frequency response chart for the Shure SM58, probably the most popular mic of all time. This mic, Shure even calls it a vocal microphone, but you see it all the time, it's used in every top-level live performance, it's used in the studio for certain things but when you look at it's frequency response chart you can tell that it is definitely not a flat responding microphone, it's way more sensitive in the high end, has a little dip here around seven K and then goes back up around nine K and the ramps down pretty quickly after that and it also rolls off on the low end, down here around 100 Hertz, it rolls off quite a bit. When we see a frequency response chart like this it tells us something and the fact that it rolls off in the low end, that characteristic usually means that the microphone's designed to be used in close proximity to the source, that's what their strength is.
