- [Instructor] Distortion and saturation are words that are basically synonymous and can mean all types of different things. Distortion is a great tool that can be used as a really heavy handed effect, but it can also be a really handy tool that can bring out certain frequencies and things and give us excitement at the top and the bottom of the spectrum. So let's take a look at the kick here, and I want to take a look at the exciter because there are a couple of cool things that we can do with the exciter. Basically exciter is a word that comes from some devices that were made in the, I believe the seventies and eighties and maybe even the nineties that were sort of these black boxes where the manufacturers wouldn't really explain what was going on in there, in fact a lot of them had a bunch of glue poured over the components so that you couldn't actually open it up and figure it out.
