Exploring wavetable and granular synthesis with Alchemy

- [Instructor] In this movie we'll explore another couple of powerful synth techniques. We'll get inside two widely-used methods of generating sound sources. One is called wave table synthesis and the other is granular synthesis, and they're related. I'll be using Logic's Alchemy Synth to demonstrate. Now, instead of using a actual voltage-controlled oscillator to form a sound source, one alternative technique is to use a short, repeated audio sample. So instead of a continuous oscillator generating, for example, a sine wave, we can actually just load in one sample of one cycle of a sound wave and then repeat that. Of course, this came into fashion once we had digital capabilities cause it's really easy to load up a digital iteration of one cycle and then repeat it. So once sampling became available, so did wave table synthesis, and it's a lot easier to load up whatever shape wave form you want and sample it over and…
