- [Instructor] The more you learn about microphones and the more you get a chance to use them, the more you'll really start to see how important the right choice and technique are. Different microphones really do sound different and they influence the sound and feel of your music differently. There are a few terms and concepts that we need to cover so that you get the most out of the examples and demonstrations coming up in this course. The range of frequencies that the human ear can hear is roughly from 20 hertz to 20 kilohertz. This broad frequency range is broken down into specific groups or bands. It's necessary to know and recognize these ranges. Highs are typically considered to be above 3.5 kilohertz. Here's pink noise that's been filtered, leaving only the highs above 3.5 kilohertz.
