Loop recording a beat with MIDI Merge

- We've already explored MIDI merge and MIDI takes in this movie I want to show you one more technique using MIDI merge to make a drum loop on the fly. Now, if you're like me, playing drums on a keyboard is kind of non-intuitive, it doesn't feel like the same as playing on a drum kit, for example. But I can use MIDI merge as I record my MIDI parts to record one drum beat at a time and to create a pretty cool drum loop. So let's see how we would do this. Notice I have a patch called trap door. This is a drum machine designer patch set up on my track here. Now in trapdoor, the C one key plays my kick drum. Playing that on my external keyboard. The D key plays the snare drum, and the F sharp key plays the high hat, and then the, a sharp key plays the open high hat. Okay, so with those four elements, I can try to play the beat altogether, but I'm not very good at it. So we can use MIDI merge recording to play one of these elements at a time and with each iterative loop as the cycle mode…
