Making a rich evolving FM bass

- [Instructor] We looked at the ins and outs of programming Operator, Ableton Lives FM synth, in a previous movie. Now, we'll use those concepts to program a rich FM based sound in Logic's dedicated FM synth, the EFM1. Here, you can see in EFM1 the carrier is on the right, over here, while the modulator is on the left. Remember, in FM you don't directly use the sounds from both oscillators, but rather one oscillator, the modulator, over here, operates by modulating the primary sound oscillator called the carrier, over here. We're going to make a base sound. So, let's start off by listening to the default sound. (base sound) Just playing my mini keyboard. (base sound continues) All right, to make that a rich base sound it needs a little work. So we'll turn down the FM knob, the frequency modulation knob, all the way so we can hear just the carrier alone and then we'll make, it'll dial in a nice subby base tone for that.…
