- [Narrator] Last, but not least: FM, the Juggernaut. Let's recall default one more time, just for fun. FM is really cool, frequency modulation is one of my favorite methods of synthesis, and that's because we're taking two very simply modules, outputting a very simple type of signal, and putting together the synthesis equivalent of rubbing two sticks together in the woods. We're creating fire; it's alchemy, it's beautiful. So we do subtractive synthesis a lot, which is very fun, I really enjoy it, don't get me wrong, but with frequency modulation, we're actually sort of growing a sound from the ground up. So, whereas with wavetable synthesis, we're taking the initial sound and sort of chipping away at it afterwards and moving it around, with frequency modulation, we are actually growing a sound from the ground up, and let me show you how. So essentially what we're using is two oscillators, one of which is modulating the frequency of the other one. And the one that's being modulated…
