Tutorial: Making a rich pad

- [Instructor] One thing synths are great at, is creating a bed of sound for your song to develop over. This is traditionally called a pad, in synth speak. In this movie, we'll use Logic Pro X's Retro, under the Table skin to create a rich synth pad. One of the keys to making a good pad, is to make the sound unfurl slowly. We can use our envelope shapes to accomplish this. So, currently, the amplifier envelope is set to have a pretty fast attack. So these notes aren't opening up slowly. Let's take a listen to what the sounds like. (synthesizer music) So we'll want to lengthen the attack time in the amp envelope. Let's go ahead and set it to something about a little over a second, say 1200 milliseconds. (synthesizer music) So now you can hear each note fading in over about a second in length. And then we'll want to increase the release value, so that each note kind of lingers out there after it's been released.…
