Using ADSR for filters

- [Instructor] Now that we understand how an ADSR envelope can shape our sound's volume, let's put it to another use, to shape a filter. That's right. ADSR envelopes are not just for amplitude shaping. You can use the same set of controls to control how and when a filter such as a low pass filter, opens and closes over the course of a note. Here's how. Back in our Retro Synth here and you notice that I have a sound, it's just sort of a sawtooth wave sound, okay. And it's got a pretty standard amplitude envelope. There's no decay or sustain. So it's just kind of a node on, stay on, type of sound. It sounds like this. (soft music) Now let's take a look at the filter. Up here in this area, we have a low pass 24 DB lush filter. And if I control the cutoff value of that filter by taking this node and sweeping it in, you can hear how the cutoff changes the sound.
