Using equalization (EQ) on a verse vocal
- [Speaker] EQ, or equalization, is a powerful method of boosting or reducing specific frequency information in our hip-hop verse signal. When used in combination with compression we have a great amount of sonic control over our signal, no matter what the microphone, preamp, or the performer sounds like. Let me show you some general approaches on how we can effectively EQ this hip-hop verse. I'm going to go over here to our bus and I'm going to open the EQ and again I'm going to make sure that we're doing this preliminary EQ. We're going to roll off everything below 100, 110 Hz. 100, 110 Hz. You'll also notice I'm going to playback and we have a bit of a problem area between 200-500 Hz here. (hip-hop music) Sounds a little bit boxy. Sometimes you can deal with this in different booths. You may have some frequency information that collects in these areas.
