- [Instructor] In this movie we'll see how to use Ableton lives frequency modulation capable synth operator to create some FM synthesis. The first thing you'll notice with operator is that there are four possible oscillators to work from. Labeled A, B, C, and D. These are by default wired in series. So that oscillator A is modulating by B. B is modulated by C and C as modulated by D. The little boxes over here all in a row demonstrate this setup. And this is the most classic FM mode. But remember in FM, we don't hear all of the oscillators. We only hear the carrier. In this setup only A is the carrier. And it's set to produce a sine wave. Here I'll play some on my Mindy keyboard, and you can hear that. (upbeat music) It's a simple sine wave. But if I turn off oscillator A, all the other oscillators are just modulators. Even if their level is up, we don't hear anything. Because they're set, I'm playing my keyboard…
