- Did I give you enough time? What did you come up with? Here's my first drawing on the left and my upside down version of the same on the right. Weird, huh? As designers, sometimes we're just a bit too good. I knew I was drawing a bear's face and a crown, and I may well have taken some license with how I thought the bear should look. But drawing one was pretty easy and no real surprises. By forcing myself to draw the second one upside down, I wasn't just copying anymore. My right brain was focused on the shapes and the spaces and also was being arm-wrestled by the distraction of having to invert the whole process as well. My eyes came out as different sizes on that one because I was so focused on placement maybe. I really like the disparity between them. It adds unexpected charm. Some people use this as an exercise to learn to focus on spatial elements. I do it to add that naive level of quirkiness to what's already a great solution, but it's lost all handmade spontaneity and charm…
