When you start to consider the most iconic, symbolic elements, it's hard to imagine how you could discuss visual space without using the word line. Lines are ubiquitous because they allow us to define space and concepts. They let us give context to a topic and to define parameters. Imagine describing geography without using the terms borderline or coastline or state lines or lines of longitude or latitude. Imagine businesses without bottom lines, production lines, guidelines, and time lines. How do we know when we've completed the task without finish lines, goal lines, or deadlines? Much like other symbols, a line does not just define a line. It represents what the line stands for. But, as you can imagine, a lonely one dimensional line may lack the ability to visually inspire in the way that one would hope that a logo might.
