- There really is no limit to the way you introduce color and surface to a logo. So our discussion here is certainly a microcosm of the opportunities that are out there. My hope is that by opening your eyes to a few possibilities, I might start off a chain reaction of additional solutions that you might come up with. Use of a color wash for a background can be very effective, but in these marks, the actual logo itself was painted by brush. The hot roll that serves as the logo for Honey Honey is not highly detailed, but instead is very gestural, and not an illustration that looks labored over. It makes the bread look natural and fresh, and complementing the illustration with a hand-style script pays off the brand as a handmade solution for a handcrafted baker. These two darker logos play off the roughness of a simple ink wash with really whimsical hand-lettered typography. The ink wash is a quick way to lay down tone that can be used inside a logo.
