Rivers: Ripples and placid waters
- When rivers are referred to as the arteries of a country or continent, there's more than a visual analogy in play. Yes, a river and its attending tributaries and creeks may look for all intents like a body's pulmonary system, but the best comparison is that rivers provide energy and resources, the waters to hydrate our bodies and irrigate our crops, the transportation and economic waterways of commerce, and most importantly, a place of reflection to rest the eyes and the soul. So as large of a contributor as that may sound to commerce, why do you suppose depictions of rivers are limited when it comes to logos? It's not that water is a bad analogy, but that a specific body of water, like a river, has its own identifiable profile, and because of the nature of a long river, it's, well, it's long! Notice all of these logos depict rivers, yet they could probably be any river. And as a rule, the river needs to be dramatically foreshortened, as have all of these, to get it down in scale…
