- Once you have some promising ideas you can get on the computer and really render them out. As you work think simple, less is better than more. I think the most common mistake in logo design is just to get too much stuff going on. You know, a line, a shape, a hint is usually all you need. So, we did four. First was the sail boat: the typeface of the N is Adobe Caslon and it's like, can you see the sail in it? How 'bout now? We add a shadow and cover half the serif. Just that bit of shadow clues you that something's there, but the dimension feels unreal. You know, the sail is partly above the page and partly not. And besides, we don't wanna logo with a permanent gradient so what happens if we change the shadow to a line? The line is serving the same purpose, it's cleaner, but I'm not yet reading it as a sail. A curving sail, like it's billowing is more graceful but to really see a boat here we need to add a hull. And now we can see it. When we put the image on a neutral background it…
