Single line: The beauty of bare essentials

- In some cases, the quality of a line is not defined in width, or tension, or color, but the in the innocent nature of what it describes. Sometimes, we must resign ourselves to the idea it's not imperative to technically or realistically illustrate the subject of our logo. Our willingness to integrate whimsy into our mark can make it much more approachable when used properly. The fact that all of these logos use line work, like a coloring book to outline an image, is not lost on the consumer. We don't hand illustrate in large flat areas of color. That's a computer function. We sketch out an image and then lay some color into it if called for. Tracy Sabin, the artist on this Skygaze logo is a master of many styles. His naive drawing of a telescope and that star put inches from the lens is fun to look at, and evokes a human quality to the style.
