Texture: The temptation of touch

- You'll note that the commonality with solutions that we've discussed in this chapter are less about color and more about texture. Your selection of surface can impact a viewer in more ways than you might imagine. Our response to sensory stimulus is built largely on memory and past experience. We might tend to think of texture as having a natural connection to touch, but it's just as commonly associated with sight. Our sensory system works as a tag team, which can amplify a reaction when multiple senses come into play. This is why a visual of sandpaper can illicit a memory of its tactile surface without actually touching it. Texture is like a clue. It gives us the information we need to determine how it came about. A brush leaves a brush stroke. A sponge leaves the marks of a sponge. We don't actually need to see the brush or the sponge to determine that they were there and that there was likely a person operating them. All of that equates to hand-made.
