- Before you look to your wrist for the time, or tap your iPhone to confirm the date, remember just how important recording and tracking time really are in our lives. If we'd made an appointment or have a meeting, we'll end up getting ourselves there on time without a great deal of thought to it. That's because the process of tracking time is just a natural part of our lives. Now, wind yourself back a few hundred years or so. For that matter, take us back thousands of years when timing was still important, but for very different reasons. We put in our crops near the fourth full moon, or we knew that we could find prey for dinner at the watering hole just as the sun was a hand-span above the horizon. That was our calendar and our clock for the better part of history of mankind. And in some areas of the world, it still is.
