- There's one more way that you can record audio for your production, and that is to record it not in the camera, but externally, to record it completely separately from the video recording and then to match them or sync them in post. The way you do that is using a recorder like this one here. Now, this is a Tascam, this is the DR-60DMKII, this is one that I've had for a number of years. There are a lot of advantages to recording your audio separately. First of all, a lot of people like to do it just for safety, so if there's anything that goes wrong with the video, you know that you have your audio recorded separately, and perhaps you can cut around it, you can insert some B-roll, you can do something else, so that your shot is not lost because you lost the audio. Now, personally, I've never had a lost audio shot when recording in a camera, but I know that others have.
