- Manual focus has come a long way since the first cameras. No longer do we have only the image on the screen itself to rely on to judge whether something's in focus or not. We have a lot of tools brought on by the digital age and especially by mirrorless that allow us to ensure critical focus is met every time when in manual focus mode. Now you might be thinking, first of all, why even bother with manual focus? Auto focus, after all, is really, really good. And it is. But there are times, especially when doing movie-making when shooting videos where you really don't want the camera focusing for you. If it's autofocusing, it might be hunting and that's never any good. It might misfocus or it might focus too quickly and you want to have a slower focus pull from one subject to another.
