- The first decision to make when setting up your GH5 for shooting video is what recording format to use. It's not that hard to actually make this decision. There's only four options, and there's really only one or two that are worth considering. So let's take a look at them. Go into the menu, navigate to the motion picture menu, and then at the top of page one of four you'll find recording format. The very first option is AVCHD, and you can see in the description it says, "Best for HDTV." What that really means is it's best for just playing back on a television. If you're going to shoot video with the purpose of plugging an HDMI cable to your camera, plugging the other end into a TV, and hitting play, then this format is just fine, but if you're going to be editing at all, this is really not a good format to choose, and if you're using a GH5 odds are you're going to be doing some editing.
