VFR (variable frame rate or slow motion)

- VFR, or variable frame rate, is the mode that you put your GH5 in when you want to shoot in slow motion. Depending on the frame size that you're shooting, whether you're shooting HD or Ultra HD, you'll be able to shoot up to 60 frames per second, or all the way up to 180 frames per second. So let's take a look at how to choose a shooting mode that you can enable VFR for, and then how to enable it, and we'll also see some samples of real life footage shot on the GH5 at these very high frame rates. So, first we go into the menu, and I'm going to go to the movie menu here, and choose Record Quality, and you'll notice that I have it currently set to 3840 by 2160, that's Ultra HD, at 29.97, and at the bottom of this menu, it says VFR available. This tells me that this mode will have VFR available. Now, I don't have to shoot in VFR. Just because it's available doesn't mean that you have to have it on, but it does mean, of course, that it is available. As we scroll up the options here into…
