Hierarchies

- [Instructor] This video is going to be an introduction to hierarchies. So the concept of a hierarchy is that you have a parent item and below that in a hierarchy, you have child items so that any transforms that are applied to the parent are then propagated to the children. And this makes it much easier to manipulate multiple objects that need to be linked together. This telescope is made up of three separate mesh items which are not currently organized in a hierarchy. So with the base selected, if I hit the W key to activate the transform tool and I move the base around you can see that the rest of the telescope simply stays in place. Let me hit CTRL Z to undo that. So what I need to do is to organize these three mesh items in a hierarchy, so that when I move the base the rest of the telescope follows along.
