Scene organization

- [Instructor] Before proceeding any further with the modeling, I think it'd be a good idea to do a little bit of scene and workflow optimization. And to start with, I'd like to save the viewport preset so I don't have to keep going into the viewport properties when I want to retopologize. And this is very easy to do. You need to start by setting up your viewport properties. So in this case, I want to have both the foreground and background meshes set to ghost. Then come over to the top left of the viewport and click on the button that says Default. In the menu that appears, scroll down to the bottom and save viewport preset. I'm going to name this ghosted retopology and click Okay. And I'm also going to save a different preset for when I'm modeling. So let's set that up now. I'm going to click on the cog icon to open the viewport properties. I'm going to set the inactive meshes to normal. And I'm also going to show that wireframes, colored at 10%. And then go to the active meshes and set their transparency mode to normal as well. And I'll need to save this as a preset. So let's do that now. I'm going to save the viewport preset. I'm going to call this modeling view and click Okay. And now, I can instantly switch between the two presets. So if I want to return to my ghosted topology view, just click on the default button. And locate the ghosted retopology preset in the list. And that will instantly switch to what I need. Next, I'd like to organize my item list a little bit. So I'm going to start by maximizing it so I can see the entire list. Going to make the backdrop item temporarily visible. And then I'm going to use Control + left click to select all of the backdrop items. And Control + G to put them all in a group. I'll rename this group to backdrops and then I'm going to hide them. Next, I'd like to start color coding the meshes in my item list so they're better organized visually. I'm going to select all of the template meshes. And with those three template meshes selected, I'm going to right-click and I'm going to set the editor color to green. Next, I'm going to select all of the topology meshes and I'm going to set their editor color to yellow. I'll also drag them so they're all together in the item list. And let's also drag this shoe template to go with the other templates. And then finally, I'm going to select the procedural meshes. I'll right-click on them and set their editor color to blue. And now, I can tell at a glance where each type of mesh is in the item list. I'm just going to restore my panel. And I'm now ready to move on to the next stage of the modeling.
