- [Instructor] Mac Systems Administration has been possible over a network to some degree since the 1990s. Products like NET Octopus and Apple Network Assistant made it possible to do things like image computers from a central location, control computer behaviors, audit settings and hardware capabilities. Going from computer to computer, sitting down and installing an application here or updating a setting there, it sure works, but man it is not efficient and it does not scale. The balancing act between controlling IT costs and providing technology that allows people to get their jobs done has always resulted in a need for network-based management tools that allow IT to manage technology efficiently. Today, we see a great example of product development to support that need in the rise of mobile device management. If you're not yet familiar with MDM, at some point soon you will be as a Mac admin.
