Using Safe Mode
- [Instructor] Safe Mode makes your Mac load only required kernel extensions. So those third party extensions that are still present and loading can't interrupt your boot process. Starting up in Safe Mode makes the system verify your startup disk integrity and it tries to repair directory issues it may find. After that, it starts the system, but it leaves out things that Apple thinks may be suspect. So it doesn't load third party kernel extensions that are deemed unnecessary. It also stops automatic launch of code that is called in startup items and login items. It also makes any user installed fonts not load, which means any fonts that are not coming from system library fonts. And finally, it deletes font caches, kernel caches, and other system level cache files. Why do this?
