- [Instructor] So we've identified our top level search query categories, informational, navigational, and transactional. Now it's time to take this a step further. A popular study by Jansen, Booth and Spink, of Penn State suggest that in order to effectively classify queries we must layer on characteristics. These characteristics add a layer of granularity to help identify the true intent of a user's search query. The more we understand this intent, the more we can influence our ranking opportunity. Let's go through some characteristics of each category, we'll start with informational queries. These can be paired with the characteristics directed, undirected, find, list, and advice.
