Commit to improvement

- Making change last begins with the mindset that we have about self-improvement. Surprisingly few people are even open to the idea that improvement needs to occur. Most resist change because they view it either as a threat to their personal identity or a threat to their current way of life. Yet change is a beautiful thing when we make it a part of the way we live our lives. The greatest leaders I've consulted share two traits that allow them to continually improve. First, they have the humility to admit there's always room for improvement. And second, they have the confidence that they know how to make those improvements happen. In this course I'll help you with the second part, gaining confidence in knowing how to improve. But the first part, being open and humble to change, is your choice. Long-term success is dependent upon a personal commitment to continual improvement. I invite you to choose to become an improvementist. An improvementist is different than being a perfectionist. Perfectionists want everything to be right, to be perfect, and they often set unattainable goals. They're focused on creating flawless moments. Perfectionism leads to a continual sense of frustration and disappointment. On the other hand, an improvementist wants to get a little bit better every time they attempt something. They're focused on long-term future progress, while celebrating each improvement. Growing a little bit each day, day after day, is a realistic and worthy goal. Improvementism leads to achievement and fulfillment. Making change last begins with adopting a lasting perspective, so as you go through this course and consider the changes you might make, be an improvementist. Rather than trying to make short-term changes to get a short-term benefit, focus on a lifelong commitment to making improvements in your life.
