- Each of the lists develop in a SWOT analysis provides big picture insights on important situations. These lists can help us create strategic plans to improve our business, organizations and even ourselves. Yet across all of these lists, The list of weaknesses is not usually looked at for what it really is, our best asset and our best advantage. I know this, this sounds crazy, or at least overly optimistic, but hear me out. Weaknesses beg several obvious questions. Why are these weaknesses occurring? How can they be eliminated? There's one question that's one of my all time favorites. What's the root cause of the weakness? Questions of causality are incredibly insightful and help us develop strategies for both corrective and improving actions. When we give ourselves permission to ask what is causing a problem, we're starting to walk down the path of the innovator.
