- [Instructor] Data scientist. You've all heard the term and it's certainly a hot job right now. But what exactly is a data scientist's role and how do they fit into digital marketing? Well, according to SAS, a data scientist is part mathematician, part computer scientist, and part trend-spotter. When I read that, I thought, sign me up. Except I'm not exactly a math wiz or a computer engineer. And I don't think the last third, trend-spotter, qualifies as enough. In simple terms, a data scientist reviews, organizes, and analyzes your company's data, conducts experiments, searches for patterns, and presents the results. Of course, to do that well, they need to have expertise in statistical analysis, coding, and database management. But they should also have softer skills, like an understanding of your business in competitive landscape, a passion for discovery, and a mindset like a hacker so they can approach a problem from…
