- [Instructor] When you start your media relations process you don't just send the media your press release. You have to pitch them. You have to get their attention. You have to sell them on the fact that your story is worth their time. A few things to note: reporters get upwards of 1,000 emails per day. Reporters also spend an average of five seconds reviewing a pitch. So, let's walk through how to craft an effective pitch and capture the reporters attention right off the bat. Here are the components of a media pitch. We'll walk through them step by step. Use this as a guide. It is so much better to take the time to create a solid four to six sentences covering these points, rather than drafting some generic pitch that will go straight to spam. This is where you give them the nuts and bolts, and then if they're interested they will email you back and request more information.
