- Have you noticed that in the absence of facts people tend to make stuff up? Culture building is no different. Very little information exists about how to build culture, so people have made stuff up about it. See if you've heard any of these myths about culture building. Culture grows organically, so you can't really shape it. So just hope you'll end up with a good culture. But hope is not a strategy. And you can absolutely influence the culture at your organization. Think about it. If you designed your organization with lots of layers and hierarchy, doesn't that shape its culture? Or if you send emails at all hours of the night and expect people to respond immediately, doesn't that send a message about the culture you expect?
