- At some point it's going to happen. A colleague will drop a piece of writing on your desk and ask you to give it a quick once over. Then they'll add, oh, by the way, can I have it back in the next two hours? This of course is your chance to be a hero, right? You can write in, rewrite that document and produce a total masterpiece. And I'll actually wait. Someone gave you their marketing copy, completely rewriting it as a bad idea for three reasons. First, they didn't ask you to do that, second, you don't know the subject matter or the context like they do. Third, you'd just probably don't have the time. Even if only one out of three is true, you're still better off doing a high level editorial rewrite than starting from scratch.
