- [Instructor] A sitemap lays out all of the content on your site and helps both the search engine spiders and the visitors to your site find all the information they're looking for. Now there are traditionally two types of sitemaps. The HTML sitemap, and the XML sitemap. The HTML sitemap is key for both users and crawlers, while the XML sitemap is only key for crawlers. To show you an example of an HTML sitemap, I'm here at lynda.com/sitemap. And this shows you an HTML sitemap. They've broken out their categories, and their subcategories, and you can click through to drill in to these various areas and move through the content that way. This is a user-friendly version that displays that first and second level structure of the website, and that really helps reinforce the way that you structure the content and it's yet another chance to send crawlers to all the pages of your site.
