Attach the piston to the joints - Maya Tutorial
From the course: Rigging Mechanical Objects in Maya
Attach the piston to the joints
- I've now got the structure of my rig in place. I have this joint chain that's moving along with the crank shaft and mimicking the motion of the piston. So now all we have to do is attach the geometry to the joints, and this should actually be pretty simple. So let me go into Windows, Outliner. So I've got a PistonRodB and a PistonB. So the piston rod can be connected very easily, just by dragging it into the hierarchy. So if I middle click and drag, and drag it over joint1, it should link up, and now that will move along with that joint. Now we don't want to do the same with the piston, because the piston needs to move vertically. So the easiest way to do that is to create another constraint. So for that, I'm going to go ahead and select joint2 which is the top joint, and then control-select PistonB. And then I'm going to create a constraint called the Point Constraint, and again, I want to make sure that we're only constraining to Y. If we constrain all, then it'll move an…
