Basics of shaders

- [Instructor] Now let's take a closer look as to what makes up a shader. Now, all 3D software works with shaders to define how a surface looks. So shaders have a number of layers or components that we can use. So let's go ahead and first off just put a basic shader on this object. Now, this shader is what's called a matte or a Lambert shader. And all it does is just give surface color and shading. Now, we have some control over this shader. The first thing we can control is the color. So I can change it from one solid color to another, or if I want to, I can apply a texture or a bitmap to this to give it a little bit more rich color. Now, we can also change things such as the ambient color, how does this glow? In other words, how does it work in ambient light? And what this does is it affects how the shading of the object works.
