Curves and curve types

- [Instructor] Another way to create surfaces in 3D is to define them with curves. Now this is typically called patch-base modeling and there are two main technologies that are used. One is NURBS modeling which is the most common and the other is called Bezier patch modeling. Now there are other technologies but they're basically all follow the same sort of rules and that is they build the surface out of curves. So for example, this surfboard here if you notice all of the detail is curves. And so the surface itself has a natural curve to it. Now if we were to go down into the detail of the surface and were to modify it, you could see how when you actually reshape the surface it actually has a nice flow and a nice curve. Now in the end, a patch-base surface will resolve to triangles, but it's a great way to create organic surfaces. Now most surfaces start with a curve.
