Importing a CAD model
- [Instructor] Now we're ready to import our CAD document which is a model of an industrial robot, kindly supplied by fellow author, Justin Flett, and it was created in SolidWorks. Let's take a look. Go to the file menu and choose import. And it's here in the current project, exercise files, scenes, and it's a STEP-file which is a generic CAD document and it's used to provide interoperability between programs, in this case, SolidWorks and Maya. We want to select that and then go over to the options and most importantly, first of all, we want to change up the namespace options. Namespaces are simply naming conventions to group similar objects together. It's kind of another way or organizing the scene. You know, you've got display layers and you've got groups and you've got hierarchies. These are all ways of organizing things. You can also organize things by their very name and that's what namespaces is. The default…
