Indirect and bounce light

- [Instructor] When we light scenes for rendering we also need to pay attention to indirect or bounce lighting. Now this is a more sophisticated way of lighting and most 3D software has some form of indirect lighting. So let's take a look at some of the more popular methods. Now the first method is actually gaining light from the environment. It's called environment lighting. Now in this scene I have a simple car and it's basically on a ground plane. But if I really zoom out you'll see that this car is surrounded by a sphere and this is called an environment sphere. And on that sphere I have an image that's mapped. Now this image is what we call an HDR or an HDRI image. In that it has very high bit depth. Now most images are going to be 8 or 16 bits deep. This one here is 32 bits deep. So it has a high dynamic range and this allows us to use that image as lighting in the scene. So if I go back to this image here and set up my…
