- When you've planned out your city in illustrator, it's time to move into 3D in Maya. I make a point of doing a plan first and that way I've got some guidelines for assembling my city. I find the plan is much quicker than altering a 3D model, even in the rough, proxy stage. Here in Maya, the first thing I'll do is to set my project, choosing "file" and "set project." I browsed into the "exercise files" folder and I'll go into the proto-city folder to set the project. This is a standard Maya project with a workspace.mel and the standard directory such as, "source images" for textures, "scenes" for scenes and "images" for rendered images. I'll click "set" and my project is set. Now in a new scene, I'll change my units to feet, choosing "window," "settings preferences," "preferences," and "settings." I'll change my linear units to "foot" and click save. One last thing I'll do to make sure I can see my scene before I start modeling. I'll select my perspective camera by clicking on the…
