- [Instructor] When we work in a 3D application, we're typically working in what's called a viewport. Now, a viewport is simply a 2D window onto our 3D world. Now, this window can be configured to view our scene in a number of different ways, so for example, if we want, we can take this scene and view it in what's called wireframe. Now, these wires are basically the geometry of our scene. Now, if we want to go even simpler, we can go into what's called a bounding box mode, which basically just shows broad outlines of the objects in our scene. Now typically, we want to see the shapes of our objects so we can also do what's called smooth shading. Now, smooth shading allows us to see the shape of our objects, and if we want, we can also do things such as superimpose our wireframes over our shaded view to give a better sense as to where the detail of our geometry is lying.
