Scene and shading nodes in the Node Editor

- Unfortunately, hypershade has some issues that for whatever reason have never been resolved. Displaying scene nodes such as shapes and transforms, is inconsistent and very buggy in the hypershade. As of Maya 2020, I recommend using the Node Editor if you need to connect scene nodes to shading nodes. In this case, we'll use the camera distance to determine the brightness of the material. So that as the camera dollies forward toward the subject, the subject fades in. So we want to select the camera to group node first, let's open up the Outliner, Windows Outliner and select camera to group. This is a camera with an aim point. And its group node includes a handy attribute which provides the distance between the camera and aim. We can find the distance between any two XYZ positions with the distance between utility node, but this just saves us the trouble. With that camera two groups selected, let's open up the…
